I realize that John Gilmore has a principled opposition to taking on
any anti-spamming techniques on the toad.com mailers, and I understand
his reasoning. However, the spam levels hitting CodherPlunks are getting
pretty high -- we're now getting almost as much spam as legitimate
traffic.
I'm consequently considering setting up a new mailing list that would
(more or less) exist as an alternative that was spam free.
One possibility might be to split my existing moderated mailing list
("cryptography") into separate non-technical and technical lists and
move forward from there. By running the list moderated, I could also
exercise some control and stop the non-technical commentary from
dribbling in. Anonymous postings would continue to be accepted, just
as they are on "cryptography", provided they are on topic.
Thoughts?
