For what its worth, I got the same message twice from posts on the "bible"
and "hnv" lists run by and "hnv" lists run by majordomo@lists.sni.net. Apparently, Mr. Pinson
angered many people by spamming them, then got hit with a classic
mailbombing by being third-party subscribed to a multitude of mailing
lists. I just turned the "+confirm" option on for the subscribe policy for
majordomo on those lists, and sent him a nice polite reply telling him we
did that, and stating that "unlike some unscrupulous people on the
Internet, we never send unsolicited email or post to inappropriate news
groups."
I'm not sure how secure the "nonce" majordomo sends back to confirm
subscription requests is, but it should frustrate at least some attempts to
use a mailing list as a mailbomb.
Spam is bad... but so is mailbombing.
