I have no doubt that you can build a chip immune to such an attack, but
it doesn't matter. What matters is that existing smart cards are
vulnerable. Mondex has lots of hardware already deployed, and the cost of
redesigning to protect against the attack is a lot higher than the cost to
mount the attack.
