It's not in the preferences, not sure if it should be.  We could remove
the ~ files when closing a diagram, but then you would risk doing a
quick save-and-quit only to find you'd saved some wrong changes and now
don't have a backup.  I can see how the ~ files can be annoying if you
have many diagrams.

There's no mime type defined for them yet (so the actual mime type would
be application/x-dia or something, but that's no big help).  We haven't
bothered to register an actual mime type yet, but it may be worth
doing.  Now as to what Konqueror should do with a Dia file -- we don't
have a stand-alone viewer or a preview or anything in the file.
