dia 0.92 build fails (during linking) on MacOS 10.3

Hi all,

I have been trying to build dia 0.92 on MacOS 10.3 for the past few 
days.  For all of my tries, I have not been able to understand the 
configure system used to build dia.  It looks like there is support for 
MacOS 10.3 in the configure scripts but the wrong flags are used to 
generate the shared library.

Output of make and configure are at
