There's already tools which will wipe your browser cache, history, etc.
There are also plenty of file-encryption tools.

But there is personal info all over. Your email package may include
very valuable info about your contacts. Your hard drive may have your
passphrase-protected public key. And your swap space, as many have
mentioned, contains all kinds of not so ephemeral bits. You don't want to
worry about each app. You don't want to worry that they'll ask why you're
carrying
a zip disk on your person. You want them not to notice; if they notice, you
want to give them a distracting 'duress' file, not the real one, and fake
a blush.

Maybe you just need a CDROM burner and a label maker.
People make custom music CDs for themselves now. If you record
from analog, who's to say the LSBs are not benign amplifier noise?

"Yes, mate, that's a recording of god save the queen off the dear ol BBC.
I figured I'd listen to it when I got 'omesick, you know."

Rabbits and foxes just keep getting faster..

You really want the persistant version of link-level encryption: you want
to encrypt whole partitions. I haven't been brave enough to try
SFS on my machines, but when I looked into it some months ago, I thought
that looked like the best package. YMMV.
