I need to implement a mechanism for a license file type of security,
but for various reasons can't use an off the shelf solution. Fortunately,
I don't have to get into lots of networking, etc - just a simple yes
or no to know if a user is authorized. What I need is something very
similar FLEXlm for those who know what that is.
Does anyone have any references to documentation for something like this?
I am guessing that I can do a 1-way hash on the expiration date, the feature,
the number of licenses, and the host id, but am not sure if there is
something obvious that I am missing.
At http://www.globetrotter.com/faqch6.htm - the FAQ for FLEXlm it mentions
that the hostid, the feature, etc, and the 64bits from the vendor.
I'm not sure what these 64 bits are used for though.
I have access to all the standard libraries, Schneier's book, etc., so
just any helpful pointers are appreciated.
Yes, I know how such things can be hacked around, the code
reverse-engineered, etc. and that threat has been deemed acceptable
if we have a reasonably secure "front door" on our license key.
Thanks,
Dan
