Examining the first 16k of my "Windows For Workgroups"
permanent swap file (386spart.par), I note that all the bytes
are set to FF hex. I have read that if the begining of this file is
wiped (from DOS) then an error will occur when Windows is
re-started. I am interested in learning more about these initial
bytes (an old paging index ?) and the structure of Windows
permanent swap files, so that I can gain a better understanding the
Windows paging process, but as yet I have been unable to locate any
info on their formats. The "Microsoft Knowledge Base" doesn't provide
a description of these formats, and I haven't turned up any any leads
from "AltaVista" or "HotBot" so far. Could anyone point me in the
direction of some good info ?
