Hello,
I am wondering as to options for encrypting connections between NS
browsers and NS servers. I don't want the passwords sent in the clear but
certificates seem to be required for the SSL security by NS, and that is
very inconvenient.
I am looking for a way to encrypt that does not require any technical
ability on the part of the user, that is fairly easy to administer.

I have asked my boss if we could have two options for the users, one
that is convenient and insecure, and the other secure, but somewhat
inconvenient.

The current project that needs some security would be having people send
passwords over the Internet (needed for LDAP), and that is risky; but
trying to get a certificate is a pain it seems (from my failed attempt,
somewhat pricy). If certificates are needed then they can be bought, but
I would like to find some other way that is more convenient for everyone
here.

I hope this is somewhat clear, but I am fuzzy about what I am asking, as
I don't know exactly what I am looking for. I just want a way to encrypt
passwords that won't require the sysadmins to be upset about a complex
administration process, or the users to be upset if it is too inconvenient
for them to use. I will be looking into Kerberos, but don't know how
inconvenient this will be.

  Thanx.
