I'm subscribed to many mailing lists, which usually have a prefix like:
[ethereal-dev] or [scite].
This makes it easy to sort out the incoming mails from spam, and sort
them automatically into a special folder.
There are many other things you can also filter on other than the subject
line (various mail headers, the footnote that is always included, etc).
As described earlier, I changed my filter accordingly.
As mail subjects like: "How Do I?" will usually considered spam by
myself (yes, and I'm using a good spamfilter).
I would encourage people to use more descriptive subject lines, think
of it as a summary and if you can describe the gist of the whole message
in just one line then please do.
Yes, I really do appreciate that, as you might see on the subject line
I've used.
It looks as if you are using a Mozilla based mail client.
If you spamfilter is good it doesn't sound like it is well configured.
Or I don't want to spend hours on configuring my mail client and my spam
filter.
Using the digest mode will have such a prefix, but this makes it much
harder to respond to a mail.
If you get the Digest in MIME mode it is possible to reply to individual
messages if you have a clever mail client.
Yes, I'm using a dump mail client and I am a dump user (see above).
Any chance that a prefix like [dia] to the mailing list mails could be
added?
I would very strongly prefer if the subject line was left as is.
With all due respect I highly recommend you invest in a mail program that
supports message threading, which makes it far easier to indentify mailing
list discussions.
You're kidding. You really trying to tell me that I should better use a
different mail client to effectively participate in the dia development?
I'm participating in www.ethereal.com development for quite a while now,
and sometimes got funny responses from other developers from time to
time. But that was the best joke I've seen so far.
I respect the opinion that the way the mailing list is better the way it
currently is, I just wanted to improve things up to my very limited
knowledge.
